An Overview of Working Conditions and Structural Deterioration at the University of Guadalajara

Abstract

This work presents an exercise of data collection, comparison and analysis, which shows some dimensions of job insecurity at the University of Guadalajara. The conditions that this situation generates threaten the structural stability of the highest educational institution in western Mexico. Only in the current administration the evidence is conclusive, the purchasing power decreased by 13%, and will reach more than 19% in 2028, thanks to the rescue of the pension system. Issues such as the lack of promotion for the improvement of academic positions, deplorable conditions of adjunct professors , reduction of beneficiaries to the university incentive program, among other challenges , add up to an accumulated worsening of labor conditions that is evident compared to other similar academic institutions in Mexico  and abroad.
